Gail's Music Studio uses classical music and traditional teaching as a foundation for all students. However, we do allow the opportunity to work on popular songs the students like. We are especially flexible with adult students by choosing the type of music they grew up with or currently listen to and use those to teach piano and vocal techniques. We will also allow the adult students the additional option of taking lessons every other week as we realize there are increased business and family responsibilities.
A comprehensive or modified home school music program is available for single families or family groups. Beginning with the "Movement and Music" program for children as young as 18 months the curriculum can later be modified to your specific home school needs whether it be a general music appreciation program for all grades K-12 or learning to play an instrument.
We charge $100 a month for 4/half hour lessons weekly. If the adult opts for every other week lesson, they will be an hour long. There is a yearly, non-refundable, registration fee of $60 with a non-refundable fee of $30 for subsequent years. When calling, please ask for the "discount special".
Each year we have unit studies that coincide with the piano or voice instruction. We are finishing up the 2007-2008 year with our study of the orchestra, instruments, orchestral compositions and famous conductors. In 2008-2009 we will be a studying the classical musical eras and composers from each. The following session 2009-2010 will be music from around the world: South Africa, Mexico, Brazil, Caribbean, Klezmer, Arab, India, China, and others. Not only will we study the music but we will also teach the rhythm patterns that make each of those unique. This will be a wonderful foundation for the next 2010-2011 session when we will look at the different genre of music with a brief musical history or each including swing, jazz, bee-bop, rock and roll, blue-grass, avante garde, country, etc.
We have competitions and prizes and trips between the students, recitals with awards and certificates and are a member of the "National Piano Teachers Guild" which offers the students a chance for scholarships. Please see the other links for pictures and details.
At the studio, in addition to the lessons, we have games, computer programs, listening stations for CD's and tapes and a DVD/VHS library of music related movies that can be watched if a sibling has to wait for lessons or can be checked out and taken home for the whole family to enjoy.
